Thanksgiving Day 2024

Grade & Group: 5th Red

Hello! My name is Lucila, and I’m in 5th grade. I am 11 years old, and today I want to share what we did for Thanksgiving at my school, Instituto Tepeyac, Campus Xcaret.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, where families and friends come together to enjoy a meal, usually with turkey. In Mexico, we don’t typically celebrate Thanksgiving, but our school decided to join the festivities to learn more about this tradition.

While Thanksgiving is usually celebrated on Thursday, November 28th, we had our celebration on November 21st. The dress code for the day was fun and colorful—everyone wore red, brown, orange, yellow, or green.

We participated in many activities throughout the day. First, we made crafts, like decorating donuts to look like turkeys or preparing popcorn mixed with Skittles for a raffle. Then, we watched a video that taught us about the history of Thanksgiving.

Later, we went outside for a mini picnic. We enjoyed delicious food, including turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, apple pie, and Arizona tea.

In our Spanish class, we learned even more about Thanksgiving. We watched another video explaining its history and importance. Then, we wrote thank-you letters to show appreciation for people who help us every day. I wrote my letter to Oli, the receptionist at our school, to thank her for her hard work and kindness.

Thank you for reading about our Thanksgiving celebration!
