My Experience Running La Carrera Tepeyac

By: Anik Avellaneda. Grade: 2nd year of high schooL. Group: C

La Carrera Tepeyac was one of those experiences I knew would be hard, but I had to run because it was mandatory to go to Guadalajara. From the beginning, I was tired, but I had enough energy to run. Everyone was excited, and so was I.

When the race started, I felt good, but after a while, I started getting tired because I don’t have much endurance.

At first, everything was calm, and I thought it wouldn’t be that hard. But once I passed the first few kilometers, I started to feel like my legs weren’t responding. I thought, “Well, I should be around kilometer 4, I’m close.” But when I saw the sign that said “Kilometer 2,” I almost died. The tiredness was starting to take effect, my legs hurt, and it was really hard to breathe.

I don’t know how, but I kept running. I focused on every step and tried not to get distracted by how far I still was from the finish line. I didn’t know if it was the heat or the tiredness, but I felt like time was not moving. The people running with me gave me some encouragement, and that helped me keep going.

Finally, I reached kilometer 5, and I felt much better. I knew the worst part was over, but there was still that last part that made me doubt whether I could finish. When I saw the finish line in the distance, I ran faster to finish because I was very tired.

In the end, crossing the finish line was such a relief. I was exhausted, but I felt really proud of not giving up. It was a very demanding race, but I learned a lot about my endurance. Now I know that next time I need to train a bit more, but for now, I’m happy that I did it.
