Miss & Mr Terranova

By: Enrique Romero

Enseñando Xosteniblemente” has become such a standard in ITX history, that many of our diverse projects are related to activities that promote the care of our community. This trimester, 3rd grade Secondary students presented a runway of recyclable designs as part of their interdisciplinary project Miss and Mr Terranova. All of them were originally proposed by the students, in teams, to represent the identity and history of their nations, and most importantly: made in class.

Students have been developing and polishing up the countries they invented, acquiring and reflecting this time identity and a sense of belonging developed while working on their own designs.

Despite what the title of the presentation or the pictures might suggest, this was not a beauty contest, but an open presentation in front of the middle school, authorities and parents where the pupils could demonstrate their work in two different rounds:

  1. A complete catwalk where the 8 ladies took turns to show off their ideas of how to recycle some materials and transform them to be fashionably worn. Then, the 8 boys took turns to do the same, while filling the stage with their energy and charisma. All the 16 students got time to explain the making process, the colours they used, the materials, and the meaning behind their clothing.
  2. The outstanding 6 students made it to the final round, in which each of them picked an envelope with one question. They had to demonstrate their expression, persuasion, and quick thinking skills when answering and explaining their views on politics, environment, technological progress, social issues, and economy. Everything established by a carefully selected jury and academic rubrics.

Miss and Mr Creativity, Miss and Mr Congeniality, and the main titles, Miss and Mr Terranova, were distributed amongst the 6 students, having the crowning as the exciting conclusion. All participants, students, teachers, and parents had a morning to comment and remember with no doubt.

This was a sample that highlighted students’ creativity, effort, preparedness, teamwork, and their willingness to prove themselves that they can face any challenge with attitude.
