Children’s Day is celebrated on the 30th of April. This day is entirely dedicated to children. In this blog, I’m going to explain how, why, and when Children’s Day was created—and also who created this fabulous day. So, pay attention and read!
First, why is this day celebrated?
This day is commemorated to affirm children’s rights and to promote a happy and safe childhood. Something really important for us as kids is: our rights, which include: the right to education, healthcare, protection from violence, and the right to play. Every child in the world deserves to be protected.
Now, how is this day celebrated?
In Mexico, it is customary to give gifts, hold fun activities in schools, and celebrate with family events, piñatas, music, and games. Don’t forget that every country celebrates it differently. For example, French culture celebrates childhood in different ways throughout the year.
Here are five fun tips to celebrate this day:
- Special family meal – Prepare the child’s favorite food.
- Movie time at home – Watch their favorite movie together.
- Visit a park or recreation center.
- Treasure hunt – Hide clues and small surprises.
- Mask-making activity – Get creative with craft supplies!
Finally, what is Children’s Day? And who created it?
Children’s Day is a day to celebrate children! Parents and family members often give them gifts, do what they like, and surprise them with activities that don’t usually happen on a regular day. It was created by the United Nations in 1954, with the goal of fostering friendship among children and promoting their well-being.
For me, Children’s Day is important because if it didn’t exist, we might not have the rights and happiness we enjoy today.
How do I celebrate Children’s Day?
On Children’s Day morning, I go to school. At home, my parents usually prepare a treasure hunt all around the house. So when I arrive, the game begins!
But this year was different. My parents had a doctor’s appointment all morning and couldn’t prepare anything. So they came up with a new idea: a “Yes Day” in the afternoon! In this game, parents have to say “yes” to everything (within reason).
When we arrived home, my parents surprised my sister and me with a treasure hunt. It was so fun and unexpected!
