WATER CONTAMINATION

Good morning judges, classmates, and general public.
My name is Adrhya De Icaza Mendoza. I’m currently in 5th grade, I am 11 years old, and I study at ITX Innovation School. Today, I’m here to talk about a topic that most people don’t pay enough attention to: water contamination.

So first of all…

DO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WATER CONTAMINATION IS?

If not, here are the three main types of water contamination in the world:

OCEAN CONTAMINATION

Ocean pollution happens when harmful things like plastic, chemicals, and trash end up in the sea. This can hurt sea animals, damage nature, and even affect human health.

LAKE CONTAMINATION

Lake pollution occurs when harmful substances like sewage, chemicals, or waste enter lakes. This makes the water dirty, harms fish and other animals, and can affect people who use the lake.

RIVER CONTAMINATION

River pollution is caused by things that make the water dirty or unsafe, such as germs, farm chemicals, medicines, plastic, human waste, and even dangerous radioactive materials.

Many people ask: Why does the topic of water contamination matter so much?

Water contamination is extremely important because it affects human health, animals, wildlife, ecosystems, and even climate change.

But even though some people think this topic is not important, it actually is—especially for the animals living in the water. People often don’t think about them, but those animals are suffering, getting sick, and even dying.

Why?!

Because of what we are doing to our planet. This causes many animals to disappear, and when that happens, they become extinct animals.

WHY DOES GARBAGE CONTAMINATE WATER?

That’s a question I’ve always had.

Garbage contaminates water when we throw trash into rivers, lakes, or oceans—whether it’s big or small. Over time, it breaks down and releases microplastics and toxic chemicals into the water. This can poison rivers, lakes, and oceans.

Another thing that contaminates water is food waste. When we throw food into the water, it releases nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. These can create harmful conditions and kill fish.

So… what do you think now?
Do you believe that water contamination is important?

Remember, we need to STOP contaminating our planet and start caring for it more.
We must keep it clean and safe, because if we don’t, we will suffer the consequences—and it will be our fault.

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!
