During our school’s Week of Health, I had the chance to take part in a meaningful activity focused on mental well-being: introducing students to the basics of yoga and its connection to mental health. While I didn’t lead physical yoga sessions, my task was to explain what yoga really is, where it comes from, and how it can be used as a tool to improve mental and emotional health.
Many people think yoga is just about stretching, but through my presentation, I helped others understand that it’s a mind-body practice that combines breathing, movement, and focus. I talked about how yoga can help reduce stress, improve sleep, and increase emotional balance—especially during busy or difficult times. It was rewarding to see students become curious and ask questions, especially those who had never tried yoga before.
What stood out to me the most was how important it is to raise awareness about mental health. Many students don’t realize how many different types of support exist beyond just therapy or medication. Practices like yoga, meditation, journaling, art, and even spending time in nature can also play a big role in healing and balance. Everyone’s mental health journey is different, and understanding the options available can be empowering.
Being part of this event made me more aware of how we can support each other just by starting conversations and sharing knowledge. Mental health shouldn’t be a hidden topic—it should be part of our everyday lives. I hope that more schools continue to create spaces where we can explore these important topics and take care of both body and mind.
